Genocide
survivors near the mass grave
of Butare were thousands of Tutsis
were slaughtered by Hutu- extremists.
The genocide left 500,000 orphans and
400,000 widows.
|
Approx. one million people were
killed
and tens of thousands of woman were
raped, during three months
(April-July
1994) of genocide in Rwanda.

One
of the greatest challenges after the
war was to deal with the perpetrators of
genocide. Legal settlement in Rwanda is
regarded as a mean to achieve peace
and reconciliation. Here: Kigali central prison

About 130.000 were imprisoned
suspected for involvements in 1994
abuses. During my study trip to Rwanda
I spoke with some prisons who were
charged for Genocide. Two of the prisons
(from left) have confessed while the
man in the right said he didn't kill anyone.

The purpose of Genocide was to
exterminate the Tutsis and opponents
of the regime among the Hutus. Most
of the victims were slaughtered with
machetes and clubs in their homes,
on the street, in churches and in
work places. here: two survivors.
|
The
people of Rwanda were betrayed
in 1994. Genocide was allowed to happen
even though the international community knew
what was going one there. UN was there
without helping so much. UN has later
admitted its mistakes but to late for victims.

Genocide.
